Prayer for Study of the Gospels

May God always bless us when we recall that birth that caused angels to sing with great joy. And may we always remember with great joy, not only the death of Jesus which brought us salvation, but also his birth which brought us Light. For both events are truly good news. Grant to us now, dear Lord, the wisdom to apply your Word in our lives, the clarity on how we can serve, and the patience and commitment to read, reflect … to be generous with our love and to make Him more proud of us each and every day in which we bring honor and glory to Him, and not to ourselves. In His name. Amen.

Katrina and Rita

God, I sit back and marvel at your Creation ... that in less than a second you released all the elements and laws of physics that eventually made life here a reality. But I marvel even more that such an awesome God could step from this gigantic creation and pay attention to each of us as individuals. It is comforting that you are always near, even when things go very badly for us. I join the prayers of thousands of others who ask for your continued grace and mercy as the southern part of our country reels back from the fury of Katrina and Rita. Death and destruction has visited your people ... so many of those who escaped the fury are now living far from their homes ... living in shelters or in churches or the homes of loving strangers. Grant these people your strength and your peace that they will find a way to begin anew.

Pray for the Journey

Pray for God’s presence as we begin this new journey … for wisdom, insight to apply, clarity on how we can serve, patience and commitment to read, reflect … courage not to be daunted by His wonderful Scriptures, but instead the humility of put it into practice, to be generous with our love and to make Him more proud of us each and every day in which we bring honor and glory to Him, and not to ourselves.

Frederick Murphy

Frederick, a friend of mine for 20 years passed quietly from this world surrounded by his brother, son and daughter. He was a gentle soul who battled pain bravely. Lord your grace is needed that Frederick will enter your kingdom.
